EGYPTIAN CHRISTIANS HOLD PRAYER MEETING ON MOKATTAM MOUNTAIN!
By Pastor Max Solbrekken, D.D.
In 2007, while preaching at the Assembly of God Church in Cairo, Jan Ernst Gabrielsen and I visited the famous Cave Church situated about 30 kilometers from Cairo. I asked Dr. Emile Boutros Boktor about its history. That Orthodox Church’s leading priest is born again and Spirit-filled and a miracle of biblical proportions led him to the Mokattam mountain!
Dr. Emile stated that he had personally preached there a couple years earlier to 35,000 people. The cave is carved out of the rock and seats 20,000. When they have a huge overflow event like this one with 71,000 people on November 11, 2011, they fill the mountainside.
Christians, who are discriminated against in Muslim countries, were forced to move to the Garbage Dump on the mountain. Christians are hard workers and being resourceful, they began recycling garbage and selling items they dug out of the garbage and have become well to do.
A Garbage worker found an expensive Rolex watch and God instructed him to search for the man who lost it. After knocking on thousands of apartment doors in Cairo, he found the owner and returned it to him. This business man was so amazed and wondered why he would do this. He answered: “Jesus Christ told me find you and return it to you!”
He was deeply convicted and gave his life to Jesus Christ, and eventually became a priest. He continued having contacts with the poor Christians on the Garbage Dump, who constantly asked him to start a Church there. One day he went up to the mountain to pray and when it started to storm he found refuge in a little hollowed out area.
The wind was strong and blew away a lot of garbage. When the storm subsided the priest discovered that he was standing in the entrance to a cave and he saw a piece of paper lying between his feet. It was a page torn out of a Bible and he read: "Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: For I am with thee and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee; for I have much people in this city.” (Acts 18: 9,10)
He obeyed the leading of the Lord and on this video you can see what God has done on that Mountain. God be praised and may He protect our dear Christian brothers and sisters in Egypt who are presently being harassed, persecuted and martyred for the name of Jesus Christ! Amen.
