KING GEORGE PRAYED:
GOD SAVED BRITAIN
By Pastor Max
Solbrekken, D.D.
When HITLER'S ARMIES were sweeping across Europe, King George V1 quoted
this poem in his Christmas address: "I said to
the Man at the gate of the year, 'Give me a lamp that I might see the way'. He
said to me, 'Put your hand into the hand of God. That will be to you better than a lamp, and more sure than
a known way'."
On May 23, 1940 King George V1 called for a day of fasting and prayer
when nearly 500,000 retreating troops were in mortal danger on the beaches of
Dunkirk. Germany’s leading General wanted to strike immediately, but Adolf
Hitler knew that he had them trapped so he gave his troops three days rest.
WHO put that in Hitler’s mind? Only God knew what was going to happen so
he caused Hitler to overule his leading General, while He controlled the weather
and water in the English Channel. The thousands of prayers from British Churches
and people caused God to save the Allied soldiers. God protected them all!
THE MIRACLE OF DINKIRK!
The churches were packed as the British called upon God for intervention
and He calmed the rough English Channel and sent a fog cover that joined the
heavy smoke from the German bombing until June 4 so that 340,000 British,
French and Belgian troops had been safely transported to England. It is rightly
called the Miracle of Dunkirk.
The British have a long record of calling upon God in times of trouble.
On February 6, 1756 when the French were planning to invade England, King
George 11 called for a Day of Fasting and Prayer.
John Wesley wrote:
"The fast day was a glorious day such as London has scarce
seen since the Restoration. Every Church in the city was more than full and a
solemn seriousness sat on every face. Surely God heareth prayer, and there will
be a lengthening of our tranquility. Humility was turned into National
rejoicing for the threatened invasion by the French was averted."
PRAYER
FOR REVIVAL!
The
Bible says: ''A Prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth. O Lord, I
have heard Thy Speech, and was afraid: O Lord, REVIVE Thy work in the midst
of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember MERCY.''
(Habakkuk 3:1, 2)
This Scripture informs us that God speaks to
His servants when they are PRAYING. If we want God to speak to us we must be in
prayer, worshipping Him and seeking His face.
When God spoke to the prophet, he became afraid and asked for
mercy! He asked the Lord to bare His arm in Revival and
not in Judgment!
He
asked God to be merciful and send a revival 'in the midst of the years'
and not wait until it would be too late! And if He must judge His people, in
His great wrath, He must be merciful! God’s Word states: ‘‘The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding.’’ (Prov.
9: 10)
REPENT: TURN BACK TO GOD!
The prophet Isaiah stated: ''Cry aloud, spare
not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show My people their transgression,
and the house of Jacob their sins. Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My
ways as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinances of
justice; they take delight in approaching God.'' (Isaiah 58:1,2)
''Therefore also now,
saith the Lord, turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and
with weeping, and with mourning. And rend your heart, and not your garments,
and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to
anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Himself of the evil.
''Who knoweth if He will return and repent,
and leave a blessing behind Him even a meat offering and a drink offering unto
the Lord your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn
assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders,
gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go
forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
''Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar,
and let them say, Spare The people, O Lord, and give not Thy thine heritage to
reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say
among the people, Where is their God?'' (Joel 2: 12-17)
HOLY SPIRIT MUST LEAD US!
‘‘Then came to Him the disiples
of John, saying, Why do we and the Phariesses fast oft, but Thy disciples fast
not? And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as
long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when
the bridegroom shall be taken from them,
and then shall they fast.’’ (Matt. 9: 14,15)
‘‘As they ministered to the Lord, and
fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate Me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted
and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. So they being
sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia...And when they were at
Salamis, they preached the Word of God in the synagogues...’’ (Acts 13: 2-4)
The BIBLE states: ‘‘Jesus Christ the same yesterday,
today and forever.’’ (Heb. 13:8). The sinless, holy, truthful and all powerful Saviour
is the same NOW as always, because He is changeless and therfore the same
yesterday today and forever!
That
is why He invites,‘Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: If any man hear my voice,
and open the door, I will come in to, and will sup with him, and he wtih Me,’’
(Rev. 3:20). My advice to all who read this message, Receive Him today as your
Lord and Saviour. You will never real peace until you do!
St.
Paul write: ‘‘That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart believeth unto Righteousness: and with the mouth confession
is made unto salvation.
‘‘For the scripture saith, Whosoever
beliveth on Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between
the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that all
upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’’ (Rom.
10: 9-13)
WHATSOEVER YE SHALL ASK!
‘Jesus said: ‘Believest thou not that I
am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak unto you I speak
not of Myself: but the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works. Believe Me
that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me: or else believe Me for the works’
sake.
‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
believeth on Me, the works that I do shall ye do also and greater works that
these shall ye do; because I go unto My Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in
My Name, that will I do, that the Father naty be glorified in the Son. If ye
shall ask anything in My Name, I WILL DO it!
‘‘If
ye love me, keep My commandments. And I will
pray the Father, and He shall
give you another Comforter, that He may abode with you forever; even the
Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither
knoweth Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
‘‘But the Comforter, which is the Holy
Ghost, whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave
unto you, My peace I GIVE unto uou: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’’ (John 14: 10-27) Amen.
